Beginning Our Homeschool Journey

Ryan 2012

It is August which means that the school year is just days away. I mentioned back in May that I would be taking a leap of faith to start homeschooling my 3rd grader for the 2013-2014 school year.

I won a free week online workshop with How to Work and Homeschool in June. This workshop was EXACTLY what I needed. Through the instructors guidance I was able to identify which curriculum I wanted to use, outline a weekly schedule for homeschooling, set some goals for homeschooling, identify what my pros and cons of homeschooling are, get all my homeschooling questions answered, and SO MUCH MORE! If you are new to homeschooling or needing guidance with your homeschooling direction I highly suggest checking out How to Work and Homeschool‘s FB page to inquire about their next workshop!

So now that I have set goals, made a schedule, and picked my curriculum I just need to put all these things into place. I sent a letter of dis-enrollment to my son’s school last week. I purchased some workbooks used from a friend (it is part of the Abeka 3rd grade curriculum). I also found that my son will be using in conjunction with the workbooks.

My second son who is entering 1st grade got accepted to Idea Public Schools which is a charter school. He starts school on August 21st therefore we are starting to homeschool on the same day. My son going to charter school had to have a uniform, backpack, shoes, etc so to help my son who is homeschooling feel excited about his school year we let him pick out some new school supplies as well as a few new outfits and shoes. All that is left to do is write up lessons plans for the next several months. Then it is time to put this all into place!

I’ll keep you all updated in the coming weeks on how this is going!
